Position Description and Requirements
Responsibilities: The Safety Leader will coordinate and manage activities of the Safety staff for the Cedar Springs Operations in providing; day-to-day Safety support to operations, oversee the preparation of and the Safety permit process, maintain required plans, training personnel, implementing the Company Safety standards and participating in Safety audits/assessments. This position will report to the EH&S Leader. Education: Bachelor's Degree Required, Degree in Engineering, Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field preferred,. Advanced Degree preferred. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Required. Minimum 7 + years experience in Safety Leadership and Management in an integrated pulp and paper complex. Working knowledge of Safety regulations - chemical process safety, hazardous material handling/storage, hazardous material handling/storage, Safety management systems; excellent communication skills; time management ability; able to report information accurately. Computer Proficiency (working knowledge of excel). Knowledge: Attention is required for managing day-to-day Safety compliance with all operating standards and regulations Oversight of; Evaluation, interpretation, and compliance with Safety laws, regulations and permits as it relates to the operation of the facility. Work directly with plant leadership to assure an effective Safety program. Represent the facility during agency inspections. Ability to develop effective action plans and drive continuous improvement in the facility's Safety systems. Provide a good foundation and solid understanding of major Safety regulations (29 CFR 1910, OSHA, etc.). The ideal candidate must be able to embrace change, possesses strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to efficiently balance multiple priorities. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate must also be self motivated, exhibit sound decision skills and have good organization skills and the ability to lead and direct a staff of professionals on maintaining and improving the Safety performance of the facility. Ability to promote and ensure implementation of Company Global Health & Safety standards and Compliance Assurance Management systems.
